Have you read the WSJ article “What Won’t You Do for a Job?” where Melissa & Doug are highlighted as putting applicants through an interview process so grueling that one job seeker left in tears. The article states that candidates must bring their lunch and three years of W-2 statements. W-2 statements? You have to be kidding me. People feel bad enough about being unemployed these days and Melissa & Doug Toys make them beg and jump through hoops for a job.
I for one will not be purchasing anymore Melissa & Doug products going forward and will be lobbying everyone to boycott their products as well. I am sure that you know someone who has been effected by the economic downturn and who has lost his or her job.

I think the wooden foods are quite creative and fun to play. However, my 2 and a half year old boy is not interested anymore – played with them for couple days only. I’m hoping that he will get interested again at some point, but never know.

I purchased this for my daughter after she played with it at a local “old town” village. She absolutely loves this. She feeds her dolls and the family.
I’m able to teach her counting & math with this by asking for 3 slices of bread or asking if there’s enough of something for everyone to have a piece.
She got this when she was 1 1/2 and still plays with it a year later!

My 2 and 4 year olds got this for Christmas, and decided to make vegetable soup. And whats vegetable soup without a little (or lot) of water. 30 mins later, the paint is peeling off all the tomatoes and carrots and the whole box has to be thrown away. Im suprised this hasnt come up in any of the 100+ reviews, maybe I have the only kids who extensively use water when they’re playing with food. They rinse, they boil, they wash and these pieces cannot handle water.
Im sure this is a great quality toy, but not for the way my kids play. Also, the pieces are heavy and hurt when dropped on toes.

I BOUGHT THIS TOY AFTER READING THE ON-LINE REVIEWS. I KNEW IT WOULD BE GOOD BUT IT IS EVEN BETTER THAN I EXPECTED. MY TWO GIRLS, 5 AND 2, LOVE THIS TOY. I LOVE IT. I AM GOING TO BUY IT FOR EVERY BIRTHDAY PARTY WE ATTEND.
